Lyrics
Ask anyone who knows me, they'll tell you I'm useless when it comes to lyrics. Well...that's not strictly true. I mean, people on the school run know me, but half of them probably don't even know I'm a musician. It's doubtful their reply will be "Well he's totally crap at lyrics!" if you were to ask them to tell you something about me.

Instead let’s just say: in my opinion I'm not good at lyrics. I'm not saying they're all terrible, it's just that I hate writing them. Sometimes a coherent theme comes together, or a story finds its way onto the page, and then I'm quite happy, but just as often, it's a load of random nonsense (see: Nah).

Anyway, for those interested, here are the lyrics to my songs so far. Of course, currently I only have the one album so that's what you will find below. Enjoy!

01 Set the World Alight
02 What I Need
03 Smarter Than This
Eponymous
[Verse 1] Time darts by, leaves me lying there in its wake Chances gone, apathy's my biggest mistake With hard work I could have got somewhere it's true But now I don't think I'm ever going to [Chorus] Set the world alight, build my fire bright Illuminate the night, pour in all that I knew Build a fire upon, so it burns til dawn Though my time has gone, but I'll strike a match or two [Verse 2] In years now gone I sat by waiting for greatness to come Killing time, just sitting with my guitar I'd strum With my friends, jamming and writing a song or three But that can't last, and now you're not gonna see me [Chorus] Set the world alight, build my fire bright Illuminate the night, pour in all that I knew Build a fire upon, so it burns til dawn Though my time has gone, but I'll strike a match or two [Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] Time still rolls, pulling me along with the tide All worked out, I look around at my life with pride Satisfied, I certainly wouldn't change a thing But I still play, and now you just might hear me sing [Chorus] Set the world alight, build my fire bright Illuminate the night, pour in all that I knew Build a fire upon, so it burns til dawn Though my time has gone, but I'll strike a match or two
[Verse 1] Take me to the beginning Even though we know there's never an end Don't go down that road alone 'Cause on this path you'll always need a friend You know the words I'm saying You know I must be right You'll hear them over and over again As you fade into the night [Verse 2] I can't take the pain away But I can tell you how to get along What a future, what a past The one hit savers were wrong You've been around forever You must have learnt a trick or two Gimmie all the things that you know And I'll give mine to you [Chorus] You wouldn't listen to the warning Not like we agreed So now tell me what you want And I'll tell you what I need [Earth Shattering Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] It was a year in the making And in the end, the finish came too soon Now you're watching your dreams fade In the shadow of the crescent moon I always knew the answer I always knew what had to be done But you never worked it out And now look what you've become [Chorus] You wouldn't listen to the warning Not like we agreed So now tell me what you want And I'll tell you what I need So now tell me what you want And I'll tell you what I need
[Verse 1] Starting the day in all the wrong ways Shaking my head, try to clear the malaise Smarter than this I thought I was smarter than this Staying up late, getting up early Going to work, gotta hide the surly Smarter than this I thought I was smarter than this [Chorus] Don't give a damn who I'm deceiving Forgotten I'm living, I'm barely breathing Friday night, Monday morning Doing my best not to heed the warning [Verse 2] How do you feel, when you're looking at How does it feel, I'm not coming back Smarter than this Maybe I'm not smarter than this Why do I do this? How could I do that to you? Leave you wanting, it's not out of the blue Smarter than this I'm not smarter than this [Chorus] Don't give a damn who I'm deceiving Forgotten I'm living, I'm barely breathing Friday night, Monday morning Doing my best not to heed the warning [Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] Kidding myself that I'm not wasting my time Bury my head, my life's just a pantomime Smarter than this I need to be smarter than this We only get one chance to sing our song Only one life, it's not really that long Smarter than this I'm gonna be smarter than this [Chorus] Don't give a damn who I'm deceiving Forgotten I'm living, I'm barely breathing Friday night, Monday morning Doing my best not to heed the warning

You won't be seeing me until you do [Verse 2] The noise ain't stopping, pierced through my ears and it shakes my brain It's unrelenting, from this vexation can’t get no refrain Can't shake the feeling someone's been here, tweaking my gain Just one solution, I’m gonna order me some chicken chow mein [Chorus] Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah [Verse 3] The songs are all written, no more stories left to be told Rogue PPI claim, guess my protection must've been mis-sold Brand new guitar mag leaves me drooling at the centrefold Bogus clairvoyant told me my destiny has been threetold [Chorus] Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah [Guitar Solo] [Verse 4] Dude stopped me breathing, the bad guy's got me in a stranglehold I lost my eyesight, no wait, I just put on my new blindfold Turned off my heating, now I'm so totally incredibly cold Get a pigeon, put a hole in the pigeon, you can say that pigeon’s been pigeonholed [Chorus] Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah [Repeat for bloody ages...]
05 Timeflies!
[Verse 1] Time darts by, leaves me lying there in its wake Chances gone, apathy's my biggest mistake With hard work I could have got somewhere it's true But now I don't think I'm ever going to [Chorus] Set the world alight, build my fire bright Illuminate the night, pour in all that I knew Build a fire upon, so it burns til dawn Though my time has gone, but I'll strike a match or two [Verse 2] In years now gone I sat by waiting for greatness to come Killing time, just sitting with my guitar I'd strum With my friends, jamming and writing a song or three But that can't last, and now you're not gonna see me [Chorus] Set the world alight, build my fire bright Illuminate the night, pour in all that I knew Build a fire upon, so it burns til dawn Though my time has gone, but I'll strike a match or two [Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] Time still rolls, pulling me along with the tide All worked out, I look around at my life with pride Satisfied, I certainly wouldn't change a thing But I still play, and now you just might hear me sing [Chorus] Set the world alight, build my fire bright Illuminate the night, pour in all that I knew Build a fire upon, so it burns til dawn Though my time has gone, but I'll strike a match or two
06 Down 'n' Dirty
[Verse 1] Marvin's back from down the track Dressed all in black, and yes his jack- -et's carried underneath his shoulder Not seen him since he went downhill S'been three long years, but yes he's still so handsome though he's getting older But looks they never make a man And Marvin's rage was quicker than a flash fire, not an ideal suitor His woman back in ninety-two, A music teacher, name of Lou, Think Marvin's here so he can shoot her [Chorus] Friday lives, they're tried and true Monday mourning, for her and you [Verse 2] Louise was playing harp one night Star in the dark, a close spotlight Her eyes closed and the music grooving The door swung open, in walked Marv Towards the bar a path he carved But when he saw Lou he stopped moving They came together at the bar At evening's end they shared a car To find another place less crowded Just two weeks later they swapped keys Lou tried her hardest, him to please Though Marv's true nature won't stay shrouded [Chorus] Friday lives, they're tried and true Monday mourning, for her and you [Guitar solo] [Verse 3] Their home together wasn't much And Marvin had a heavy touch On every night when he got drinking Despite the years he wouldn't stop And finally Lou called a cop Marv went to prison, chains a'clinking He just grew colder in the pen His only plan to take his ven- -geance out on Lou when freedom permits But this time Lou's not getting caught She's planned ahead and got herself a shot- gun, and she's gonna use it [Chorus] Friday lives, they're tried and true Monday mourning, for her and you
07 Alone While Coasting
[Verse 1] Running and hiding and slipping and sliding And flying and gliding through the sky of your dreams Yelling and calling and climbing and falling A thrill that's enthralling, but no-one knows what it means [Verse 2] No-one will tell you but they're trying to sell you A new way to propel to giving your life away And if they can do it we may never see through Existing only to do, 'til from the dream we awake [Bridge] But you can't find a way And you don't know what to say to be seen [Chorus] Alone while coasting, we're all toasting To what you're hoping you'll find Imposed enshrouding, overcrowding Destroying your state of mind [Middle 8] The waters close, or the darkness grows Or the walls come in, whatever you want to say The picture fades to the ace of spades It's like you're living inside a cliché The prompt can wait, keep your thinking straight Though it seems like it doesn't much want you to Ignore the glitch, press the power switch Two wrongs don't make a right but three lefts do [Bridge] And you can't find a way And you don't know what to say to be seen You're wandering astray And you don't know what you're caught in between [Chorus x2] Alone while coasting, we're all toasting To what you're hoping you'll find Imposed enshrouding, overcrowding Destroying your state of mind
08 Short Song, Few Lyrics, Lotsa Guitar
[Verse] This is my song but it won't take long because it's not got many words You could say it's crud 'cause it ain't that good, it's not even for the birds Why are you listening? You wouldn't be missing if you turned and walked away But I've had a thought, it might be naught, but the reason you decided to stay At the start of the track you were hearing my axe, it's the reason the lyrics were no-show Let's get back to that state, you don't wanna wait, you only want to hear more solo!
09 Masquerade
[Verse 1] When I first knew, he wasn't blue He was a boy And so I came to see, it wasn't me There was no joy [Verse 2] It's become so hard to find, so now I am resigned To look away I leave it up to her, there was no word That she could say [Chorus] Why do I see it in my dreams Or on the streams, that's how it seems And now I know it could be real From this reveal or some ordeal [Guitar solo] [Chorus] Why do I see it in my dreams Or on the streams, that's how it seems And now I know it could be real From this reveal or some ordeal [Verses 3] And now I am aware of what is there I'm not afraid And I'll pass on to you what's false and true In this masquerade
10 The Future Alone
[Verse 1] Close your eyes, it's time to look inside Face your fears like I always tried Take the chance before you find it's gone Take it away, you've got to be the one [Chorus] (As the light in the distance starts to fade) To show the stars in the sky (The crescent moon and the light it's made) Like I see in your eyes (Time is short and life is just a loan) Tell me when your fears died (I don't want to face the future alone) I need you by my side [Verse 2] Say to me you want to stay forever Then we'll be through the years together Always sure that you have made the right choice Take my hand and listen to my voice [Chorus] (As the light in the distance starts to fade) To show the stars in the sky (The crescent moon and the light it's made) Like I see in your eyes (Time is short and life is just a loan) Tell me when your fears died (I don't want to face the future alone) I need you by my side [Guitar solo] [Verse 3] I see you when I look up at night And I know that we will be alright Don't be scared, we're in for nasty weather See the stars and see we're all together [Chorus] (As the light in the distance starts to fade) To show the stars in the sky (The crescent moon and the light it's made) Like I see in your eyes (Time is short and life is just a loan) Tell me when your fears died (I don't want to face the future alone) I need you by my side (As the light in the distance starts to fade) I'm thinking only of you (The crescent moon and the light it's made) But what else can I do? (Time is short and life is just a loan) Knowing you're the one (I don't want to face the future alone) I can't believe you've gone
11 Healing Time
[Verse 1] When you're feeling your age Tear your eyes from the page You're not done just quite yet Stop acting that way So you're down on your luck Feeling hits like a truck Forget what you think you know Just stand up and get on your way [Chorus] Feeling (feeling) (feeling) like you're dead It's healing (healing) (healing) time instead [Verse 2] Your brain says you can't win Might as well just give in You truly feel like the world would be better off without you there Don't give in to that tone Remember you're not alone Turn to the ones who love you And let them help you up again [Chorus] Feeling (feeling) (feeling) like you're dead It's healing (healing) (healing) time instead [Middle 8] Your mind plays tricks, you know it's true What if the people all around feel the same way too? Maybe just once use a positive light to see And picture in your head what could be [Chorus] Feeling (feeling) (feeling) like you're dead It's healing (healing) (healing) time instead [Verse 3] Working hard all your life On the edge of a knife Your struggle can't be known By anyone outside looking in But now you're back in the world Got your roadblock unfurled Stick to the path you've found And try hard not to lose it again [Chorus - Repeat] Feeling (feeling) (feeling) like you're dead It's healing (healing) (healing) time instead
12 Your Place in Time
[Verse 1] What can I say to you that you don't already know It feels sometimes like I should walk away But you're on your first chance, and I've used all of mine It's not yet time for me to stray [Verse 2] Just because it's different doesn't make it any better Only a fool can't work that out You don't know what you want so why not take some time And remove the last instance of doubt [Chorus] And now there's nothing left to do but wait I'm not expecting anything that great You have it your way, and I'll have mine It's a long time to wait for your place in time [Verse 3] Walking on my path alone would not be my first choice Your place was always by my side And now I regret telling you to leave me behind On my path I hope you'll decide [Chorus] And now there's nothing left to do but wait I'm not expecting anything that great You have it your way, and I'll have mine It's a long time to wait for your place in time [Middle 8] I thought the easiest thing was for us to say goodbye And now you've got me running, you got so far away I still see you in the distance a long way down the road Our time together now is not for me to say Please tell me there's a chance, I know, it's not for me to ask You were free from me, the man behind the mask I was selfish with you, selfish with our time You gave me all the warnings, didn't see it at the time Now you're living your life the way you wanted to You don't think of me...the way I think of you [Chorus] And now there's nothing left to do but wait I'm not expecting anything that great You have it your way, and I'll have mine It's a long time to wait for your place in... [Outro - Hint] Your place in... Your place in... [Chorus] And now there's nothing left to do but wait I'm not expecting anything that great You have it your way, and I'll have mine It's a long time to wait for your place in... [Outro] Your place in... Your place in... Your place in... Your place in...time Your place in time
